Based out of Austin, Texas, Christian Wiggs is Austin's newest up-and-coming jazz vocalist. Taking inspiration from greats such as Kurt Elling, Mel Torme, Chet Baker, Nat King Cole and more, Christian brings a unique sound to the bandstand, incorporating subtle nuances of the prolific voices jazz enthusiasts know and love.
While pursuing a classical music degree at Texas State University, Wiggs continued to refine his interpretation of style and made his way into the Austin jazz scene, soon becoming affiliated with & bandleading The Vintage 15 Big Band. In November 2015, Christian recorded his first professional jazz record, "Wonderful You Came By". Each track held significance and paid tribute to the musicians that Wiggs took inspiration from. As a nod to someone who defined what it is to be a jazz singer, the record was released on December 12th, 2015: the Sinatra Centennial.
In October 2017, Christian released his second full-length album, "From Dusk till Dawn", which takes more of a dramatic approach in telling a story using pre-existing standards that, together, become more than the sum of their parts. While many of the tunes on the record are standards, Wiggs added a few of his own originals, composed and arranged with long-time pianist & collaborator, David Mesquitic. The story tells of romance, excitement, the passing of time, conflict, and hopeful resolution. Plans are for a third full-length album are under way, with a hopeful release in 2019.
In 2018, Christian can be found making his rounds all across Austin, bringing old familiar tunes back to the forefront of the music capitol of the world with an excitement that breaks the stereotype that jazz might as well be “wallpaper”or “elevator music”. Currently, he serves as the Booking & Client Relations coordinator, as well as Manager of Bands, for Glass Elephant Entertainment.
Christian has performed with musicians such as Robert Ellis, Cole Degges, Blue Water Highway Band, Matthew Maldonado, Ross Margitza, David Young, Utah Hamrick, Adam Reidelbach, Jovol Bell, Steve Hunt, Stockton Helbing, Ed Lowe, Ted Wenglinski, Brian Casey, and many more. Wiggs has also opened for acts such as Tony DeSare, the Houston Symphony Orchestra & Blue Water Highway Band.
In his free time, Wiggs enjoys film, starting new projects, & hearing from fans!
